Croatia: Tour De Wine

Posted on October 28, 2009 with No Comments

croatia-splitWhen for the first time wine production mushroomed under the Roman Empire, since then Croatian vineyards came into notice. As the Croatians started settling and taking on the knowledge that was passed down to them straight from their ancestors, the production got multiplied by a significant margin. In spite of the fact that, a good number of the vineyards were damaged while the Croatian War of Independence took place in the 1990’s, the wine production has of late regained the past glory quite successfully.

Presently, there are about 300 wineries in Croatia that are produced in two separate places: One of them is The Coastal Region and the other is the Continental Region.

A lot of varieties of grapes are found in Croatia. One of the most popular and widely recognised red wine known as Plavac Mali is extracted from the red “Plavac Mali” grape which is found in the Dalmatian coast region. This particular species of grape produces wines that are quite high in terms of the quantity of tannins and the alcohol. Zinfandel grape is the direct predecessor of the Plavac Mali grape.

One of the most popular white wines found in Croatia also known as Pošip is a quite dry white wine that is produced right from the Pošip grape that is only found on the KorAula Island. Pošip is a totally flavoured wine that is best served with the comparatively lighter food items, such as the fish, the prawns or the lobsters.
So, if you are planning to tour the wineries of the Croatia then you can also get introduced with more wines namely The Teran, the Malvazija and many more. Whether you plan to visit the countryside or to the continental winery this is truly a unique way to turn your trip to Croatia an ever refreshing one.

827337-Traditional_Thai_Dancing_Bangkok_THAILAND-ThailandBangkok is perhaps the most tourist attractive Asian city. It is safe, and offers historic pleasures as well as modern garishness in almost equal measure. The city is diverse in it mix of people, not only with Thai people coming from the countryside to work, but with expats settling after finding jobs in the sprawling metropolis.

Accommodation in Bangkok is varied, and can be cheap if you do not mind not being in a top hotel. Because of the humidity it is always best to get air conditioning.

Getting around the city has been made all the more easy with the introduction of the Sky Train, which is inexpensive and very reliable. You can also try the bus, which can get crowded, or opt for an official taxi – the ones with a red light in the window if they are free. For the modern day authentic Thai experience, get on a Tuk-Tuk. These are amazing little covered trikes that will get you from A to B for a very reasonable fee.

There are many old palaces to explore in and around Bangkok, with artefacts dating back thousands of years. Couple this with the museums on offer and you have enough culture to keep a 2 week holiday filled. Lumpini Park in the middle of Bangkok is the largest open area in the city, and is great if you want to see what the locals do in their spare time. You will likely catch some free entertainment of some sort here too.

Away from the culture, there are Thai boxing matches most evenings, elephant rides for those who don’t mind seeing the animals in captivity, and spa’s and health clubs to get pampered in. If all that leaves you too tired, you can enjoy a relaxing Thai massage.

Clothing is a big industry in Thailand, and because it is made there, it is cheap to buy there. Ask your hotel to point you in the direction of the shopping districts, and you can happily spend a day or two just browsing the rails.

Thai food is world famous for its tasty spiciness. Here you can have it cooked in front of you for prices so cheap you will wonder how the restaurants make a living.

Athens: Blend of History and Culture

Posted on October 7, 2009 with No Comments

01818_greece_athens_acropolisAthens-the place where Western civilization was born is a divine gift on earth. The city of Athens itself is composed of a number of districts, of them the most famous one being the “Acropolis”.
From historical point of view of recent past, Athens has always been linked with the origin of Olympic Games as it was first held in this very city. Alongside it there are a number of museums that holds both old and new architectural beauties to explore. Since, the first modern Olympic took place in the Athens in the year of 2004, there’s been a significant enhancement in the infrastructure. If you want to relive the glory of the first ever Olympic, then you can pay a visit to the 1896 Panathianiko Stadium.
From the point of view of the shopping fanatics, Athens is quite a very conventional city, where the modern shopping malls are lesser in number and thereby you need to get into the old world shopping places. From these street shops, you can find almost anything you like to but starting from fashion items and jewellery to the spices.
Food items are usually cheaper, and if you wish to stay on the conventional tack, then my advice to you is to give souvlaki a shot. Souvlaki is found in wrapped condition containing grilled meat and vegetables inside of a pita bread. It is as fundamental and wholesome as you can ever wonder, at pretty cheap price tag – what you need t do is simply find a vendor which the locals usually use.
The conventional aspect of the city is that unlike a lot of the modern cities Athens goes for sleep at night, and then comes the time when the bars and the night clubs come to action. There is a wide range to select from which will perfectly fit in with your budget. Pay a visit to the coastal zone; best if you do so in the middle of the summer with a view to enjoy the al fresco drinks and a party environment. If you are having enough money, then you can also rub shoulders by going to the Athens elite located in the Balux
So, you get a bit of both culture and modernity in Athens. Pay a visit to Athens whenever you feel for getting a touch of the two.
